Genes affected
EPCAM (HGNC:11529): (epithelial cell adhesion molecule) This gene encodes a carcinoma-associated antigen and is a member of a family that includes at least two type I membrane proteins. This antigen is expressed on most normal epithelial cells and gastrointestinal carcinomas and functions as a homotypic calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule. The antigen is being used as a target for immunotherapy treatment of human carcinomas. Mutations in this gene result in congenital tufting enteropathy. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2008]

Uncertain significance, criteria provided, single submitterclinical testingAmbry GeneticsApr 04, 2022The p.L12V variant (also known as c.34C>G), located in coding exon 1 of the EPCAM gene, results from a C to G substitution at nucleotide position 34. The leucine at codon 12 is replaced by valine, an amino acid with highly similar properties. This amino acid position is conserved. In addition, this alteration is predicted to be tolerated by in silico analysis. Since supporting evidence is limited at this time, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
