S100 proteins are localized in the cytoplasm and/or nucleus of a wide range of cells, and involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation. S100 genes include at least 13 members which are located as a cluster on chromosome 1q21. This protein may have a tumor suppressor function. The c.23C>T (p.A8V) alteration is located in exon 2 (coding exon 1) of the S100A2 gene. This alteration results from a C to T substitution at nucleotide position 23, causing the alanine (A) at amino acid position 8 to be replaced by a valine (V). Based on insufficient or conflicting evidence, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
