The TRIM motif includes zinc-binding domains, a RING finger region, a B-box motif and a coiled-coil domain. TRIM46 is reported to be involved in the proliferation of multiple types of cancer cells including lung and breast cancer. This alteration results from a C to T substitution at nucleotide position 254, causing the serine (S) at amino acid position 85 to be replaced by a phenylalanine (F).
