Genes affected
USH2A (HGNC:12601): (usherin) This gene encodes a protein that contains laminin EGF motifs, a pentaxin domain, and many fibronectin type III motifs. The protein is found in the basement membrane, and may be important in development and homeostasis of the inner ear and retina. Mutations within this gene have been associated with Usher syndrome type IIa and retinitis pigmentosa. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. The c.6765C>A (p.D2255E) alteration is located in exon 35 (coding exon 34) of the USH2A gene. This alteration results from a C to A substitution at nucleotide position 6765, causing the aspartic acid (D) at amino acid position 2255 to be replaced by a glutamic acid (E). Based on insufficient or conflicting evidence, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear.
