Defects in this gene are associated with Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy and posterior polymorphous corneal dystrophy type 2. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. The variant was observed in the following populations: Other in 1 of 6132 chromosomes (freq: 0.000163), African in 1 of 16240 chromosomes (freq: 0.000062) and European (non-Finnish) in 1 of 113630 chromosomes (freq: 0.000009), but was not observed in the Latino, Ashkenazi Jewish, East Asian, European (Finnish), or South Asian populations.
