This protein may be involved in the formation of signaling complexes in the plasma membrane. Polymorphisms in this gene are associated with age-related macular degeneration. This alteration results from a G to A substitution at nucleotide position 700, causing the valine (V) at amino acid position 234 to be replaced by an isoleucine (I).
