A shorter isoform of this protein termed LIM nebulette is expressed in non-muscle cells and may function as a component of focal adhesion complexes. This alteration results from a G to C substitution at nucleotide position 2499, causing the arginine (R) at amino acid position 833 to be replaced by a serine (S).
