Genes affected
PCDH15 (HGNC:14674): (protocadherin related 15) This gene is a member of the cadherin superfamily. Family members encode integral membrane proteins that mediate calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion. It plays an essential role in maintenance of normal retinal and cochlear function. Mutations in this gene result in hearing loss and Usher Syndrome Type IF (USH1F). Extensive alternative splicing resulting in multiple isoforms has been observed in the mouse ortholog. Similar alternatively spliced transcripts are inferred to occur in human, and additional variants are likely to occur. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2008]

Uncertain significance, criteria provided, single submitterclinical testingAmbry GeneticsNov 22, 2021The c.913C>G (p.Q305E) alteration is located in exon 9 (coding exon 8) of the PCDH15 gene. This alteration results from a C to G substitution at nucleotide position 913, causing the glutamine (Q) at amino acid position 305 to be replaced by a glutamic acid (E). Based on insufficient or conflicting evidence, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
