Yeast alpha-aminoadipate dehydrogenase converts alpha-biosynthetic-aminoadipate semialdehyde to alpha-aminoadipate. It has been suggested that defects in the human gene result in pipecolic acidemia. This alteration results from a A to G substitution at nucleotide position 305, causing the tyrosine (Y) at amino acid position 102 to be replaced by a cysteine (C).
