The encoded protein is a mitochondrial enzyme that functions in catabolism of the branched-chain amino acid valine. Defects in this gene are the cause of isobutyryl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency.[provided by RefSeq, Nov 2009]

Advanced modeling of protein sequence and biophysical properties (such as structural, functional, and spatial information, amino acid conservation, physicochemical variation, residue mobility, and thermodynamic stability) performed at Invitae indicates that this missense variant is not expected to disrupt ACAD8 protein function. This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals with ACAD8-related conditions. This variant is not present in population databases (ExAC no frequency). This sequence change replaces arginine with tryptophan at codon 29 of the ACAD8 protein (p.Arg29Trp). The arginine residue is moderately conserved and there is a moderate physicochemical difference between arginine and tryptophan. -
