Olfactory receptors share a 7-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and are responsible for the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. This alteration results from a C to A substitution at nucleotide position 73, causing the leucine (L) at amino acid position 25 to be replaced by an isoleucine (I).
