The encoded protein associates at the cell membrane with the cytoplasmic domain of beta integrins, where it regulates integrin-mediated signal transduction. Activity of this protein is important in the epithelial to mesenchymal transition, and over-expression of this gene is implicated in tumor growth and metastasis. This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals with ILK-related conditions. This sequence change replaces aspartic acid with histidine at codon 3 of the ILK protein (p.Asp3His). The aspartic acid residue is highly conserved and there is a moderate physicochemical difference between aspartic acid and histidine. This variant is not present in population databases (ExAC no frequency). -
