This family member is proposed to play a role in photoreceptor disk morphogenesis. A mutation in this gene results in one form of autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa and macular degeneration. This sequence change replaces leucine, which is neutral and non-polar, with proline, which is neutral and non-polar, at codon 10 of the FSCN2 protein (p.Leu10Pro). This variant is not present in population databases (gnomAD no frequency). This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals affected with FSCN2-related conditions.
