Together these subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins. This gene encodes a member of the L18E family of ribosomal proteins that is a component of the 60S subunit. As is typical for genes encoding ribosomal proteins, there are multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene dispersed through the genome. This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals affected with RPL18-related conditions. This sequence change replaces proline, which is neutral and non-polar, with serine, which is neutral and polar, at codon 165 of the RPL18 protein (p.Pro165Ser). This variant is not present in population databases (gnomAD no frequency). Algorithms developed to predict the effect of missense changes on protein structure and function are either unavailable or do not agree on the potential impact of this missense change (SIFT: "Deleterious"; PolyPhen-2: "Benign"; Align-GVGD: "Class C0").
