Expression of this gene is restricted to the oocyte. A mouse gene that encodes a maternal oocyte protein, similar to this encoded protein, is required for normal early embryogenesis. This alteration results from a T to C substitution at nucleotide position 173, causing the leucine (L) at amino acid position 58 to be replaced by a proline (P).
