Members of this family are zinc-containing type II integral-membrane proteins that are important regulators of neuropeptide and peptide hormone activity. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal recessive distal arthrogryposis, type 5D. This gene has multiple pseudogenes on chromosome 2. The c.2259G>C (p.E753D) alteration is located in exon 18 (coding exon 17) of the ECEL1 gene. This alteration results from a G to C substitution at nucleotide position 2259, causing the glutamic acid (E) at amino acid position 753 to be replaced by an aspartic acid (D). Based on insufficient or conflicting evidence, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
