Genes affected
EPCAM (HGNC:11529): (epithelial cell adhesion molecule) This gene encodes a carcinoma-associated antigen and is a member of a family that includes at least two type I membrane proteins. This antigen is expressed on most normal epithelial cells and gastrointestinal carcinomas and functions as a homotypic calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule. The antigen is being used as a target for immunotherapy treatment of human carcinomas. Mutations in this gene result in congenital tufting enteropathy. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2008]

Uncertain significance, criteria provided, single submitter | clinical testing | Ambry Genetics | Nov 18, 2024 | The p.S289C variant (also known as c.866C>G), located in coding exon 8 of the EPCAM gene, results from a C to G substitution at nucleotide position 866. The serine at codon 289 is replaced by cysteine, an amino acid with dissimilar properties. This amino acid position is conserved. In addition, the in silico prediction for this alteration is inconclusive. Based on the available evidence, the clinical significance of this variant remains unclear. - |
