Members of this protein family contain a cyclin box motif and have structural similarity to the cyclins. The encoded protein may play a role in metal ion transport. Mutations in this gene are associated with Jalili syndrome which consists of cone-rod dystrophy and amelogenesis imperfecta. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2010]

Utilizing variant allele frequency, disease prevalence and penetrance estimates, and inheritance mode, an automated score was calculated to assess if this variant is too frequent to cause the disease. A literature search was performed for the gene, cDNA change, and amino acid change (if applicable). No publications were found based on this search. This sequence change replaces leucine with valine at codon 21 of the CNNM4 protein (p.Leu21Val). The leucine residue is weakly conserved and there is a small physicochemical difference between leucine and valine. -
