The protein is predicted to have eleven transmembrane domains and a cell surface localization signal in the C-terminus. Mutations at this locus have been associated with Brown-Vialetto-Van Laere syndrome and Fazio-Londe disease. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2012]

The leucine amino acid residue is found in multiple mammalian species, suggesting that this missense change does not adversely affect protein function. This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals with SLC52A3-related disease. This variant is not present in population databases (ExAC no frequency). This sequence change replaces valine with leucine at codon 84 of the SLC52A3 protein (p.Val84Leu). The valine residue is weakly conserved and there is a small physicochemical difference between valine and leucine. -
