GDP-mannose is used for synthesis of dolichol-phosphate-mannose, which is essential for N-linked glycosylation and thus the secretion of several glycoproteins as well as for the synthesis of glycosyl-phosphatidyl-inositol (GPI) anchored proteins. The c.293A>T (p.N98I) alteration is located in exon 4 (coding exon 4) of the PMM1 gene. This alteration results from a A to T substitution at nucleotide position 293, causing the asparagine (N) at amino acid position 98 to be replaced by an isoleucine (I).
