Studies of the similar gene in mice suggested a possible role of this protein in transcriptionally inactive haploid spermatids. This alteration results from a G to T substitution at nucleotide position 1993, causing the aspartic acid (D) at amino acid position 665 to be replaced by a tyrosine (Y).
