Via the RING-finger, the encoded protein has been shown to function as an ubiquitin-protein ligase involved in protein sorting at the trans-Golgi network. This alteration results from a C to T substitution at nucleotide position 2068, causing the proline (P) at amino acid position 690 to be replaced by a serine (S).
