ACSL1 (HGNC:3569): (acyl-CoA synthetase long chain family member 1) The protein encoded by this gene is an isozyme of the long-chain fatty-acid-coenzyme A ligase family. Although differing in substrate specificity, subcellular localization, and tissue distribution, all isozymes of this family convert free long-chain fatty acids into fatty acyl-CoA esters, and thereby play a key role in lipid biosynthesis and fatty acid degradation. The c.1396G>A (p.G466R) alteration is located in exon 15 (coding exon 14) of the ACSL1 gene. This alteration results from a G to A substitution at nucleotide position 1396, causing the glycine (G) at amino acid position 466 to be replaced by an arginine (R). Based on insufficient or conflicting evidence, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
