A similar protein in mouse plays a role in both interkinetic nuclear migration, which is a characteristic pattern of nuclear movement in neural progenitors, and in neural progenitor self-renewal. This alteration results from a C to G substitution at nucleotide position 2917, causing the arginine (R) at amino acid position 973 to be replaced by a glycine (G).
