The protein is highly sensitive to external pH and this, in combination with its expression pattern, suggests it may play an important role in renal potassium transport. The c.1135C>T (p.R379W) alteration is located in exon 5 (coding exon 5) of the KCNK5 gene. This alteration results from a C to T substitution at nucleotide position 1135, causing the arginine (R) at amino acid position 379 to be replaced by a tryptophan (W). Based on insufficient or conflicting evidence, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
