Genes affected
RINT1 (HGNC:21876): (RAD50 interactor 1) This gene encodes a protein first identified for its ability to interact with the RAD50 double strand break repair protein, with the resulting interaction implicated in the regulation of cell cycle progression and telomere length. The encoded protein may also play a role in trafficking of cellular cargo from the endosome to the trans-Golgi network. Mutations in this gene may be associated with breast cancer in human patients. The p.I7F variant (also known as c.19A>T), located in coding exon 1 of the RINT1 gene, results from an A to T substitution at nucleotide position 19. The isoleucine at codon 7 is replaced by phenylalanine, an amino acid with highly similar properties. This amino acid position is not well conserved in available vertebrate species. In addition, this alteration is predicted to be tolerated by in silico analysis. Since supporting evidence is limited at this time, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
