The encoded protein is found in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum, where it is thought to accelerate protein folding. Defects in this gene are a cause of a type of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS). This sequence change replaces aspartic acid with tyrosine at codon 186 of the FKBP14 protein (p.Asp186Tyr). The aspartic acid residue is moderately conserved and there is a large physicochemical difference between aspartic acid and tyrosine. -
