In mammals, members of this family are thought to play a role in many cellular processes in early embryonic development. A similar protein in Drosophila determines apicobasal polarity in embryonic epithelial cells. This sequence change replaces serine with tyrosine at codon 28 of the CRB2 protein (p.Ser28Tyr). The serine residue is weakly conserved and there is a large physicochemical difference between serine and tyrosine. In summary, the available evidence is currently insufficient to determine the role of this variant in disease. Therefore, it has been classified as a Variant of Uncertain Significance. -
