A similar protein in erythrocytes helps determine the shape of red blood cells, but the function of the encoded protein has not been determined. There is some evidence that this is a tumor suppressor gene, and there is also evidence linking defects in this gene to susceptibility to diabetic nephropathy in type 1 diabetes. The c.1304T>C (p.I435T) alteration is located in exon 1 (coding exon 1) of the FRMD3 gene. This alteration results from a T to C substitution at nucleotide position 1304, causing the isoleucine (I) at amino acid position 435 to be replaced by a threonine (T). Based on insufficient or conflicting evidence, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
