Deficiency of this enzyme may contribute to hepatic dysfunction. Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. This sequence change replaces lysine, which is basic and polar, with glutamic acid, which is acidic and polar, at codon 34 of the AKR1D1 protein (p.Lys34Glu). -
