It does not directly change the encoded amino acid sequence of the COX20 protein. It affects a nucleotide within the consensus splice site of the intron. The frequency data for this variant in the population databases is considered unreliable, as metrics indicate insufficient coverage at this position in the ExAC database. This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals affected with COX20-related conditions. Nucleotide substitutions within the consensus splice site are a relatively common cause of aberrant splicing (PMID: 17576681, 9536098).
