Genes affected
EBF3 (HGNC:19087): (EBF transcription factor 3) This gene encodes a member of the early B-cell factor (EBF) family of DNA binding transcription factors. EBF proteins are involved in B-cell differentiation, bone development and neurogenesis, and may also function as tumor suppressors. The encoded protein inhibits cell survival through the regulation of genes involved in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, and aberrant methylation or deletion of this gene may play a role in multiple malignancies including glioblastoma multiforme and gastric carcinoma. Uncertain significance, criteria provided, single submitter | clinical testing | PreventionGenetics, part of Exact Sciences | Oct 25, 2022 | The EBF3 c.1430_1433delTCAG variant is predicted to result in a frameshift and premature protein termination (p.Val477Alafs*4). To our knowledge, this variant has not been reported in the literature or in a large population database (http://gnomad.broadinstitute.org), indicating this variant is rare. Although we suspect that this variant may be pathogenic, at this time, the clinical significance of this variant is uncertain due to the absence of conclusive functional and genetic evidence. - |
