The encoded protein also stabilizes constitutive heterochromatin to maintain the overall chromatin structure. The active, hypophosphorylated form of the protein binds transcription factor E2F1. This sequence change replaces glutamic acid, which is acidic and polar, with valine, which is neutral and non-polar, at codon 693 of the RB1 protein (p.Glu693Val). -
