It probably has a role in erythrocyte shape and mechanical property regulation. Mutations in the EPB42 gene are associated with recessive spherocytic elliptocytosis and recessively transmitted hereditary hemolytic anemia. The c.1934A>G (p.D645G) alteration is located in exon 12 (coding exon 12) of the EPB42 gene. This alteration results from a A to G substitution at nucleotide position 1934, causing the aspartic acid (D) at amino acid position 645 to be replaced by a glycine (G). Based on insufficient or conflicting evidence, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
