Genes affected
NME8 (HGNC:16473): (NME/NM23 family member 8) This gene encodes a protein with an N-terminal thioredoxin domain and three C-terminal nucleoside diphosphate kinase (NDK) domains, but the NDK domains are thought to be catalytically inactive. The sea urchin ortholog of this gene encodes a component of sperm outer dynein arms, and the protein is implicated in ciliary function. Mutations in this gene are implicated in primary ciliary dyskinesia type 6.[provided by RefSeq, Nov 2009]

Primary ciliary dyskinesia Uncertain:1
Uncertain significance, criteria provided, single submitterclinical testingAmbry GeneticsJan 13, 2017The p.R6Q variant (also known as c.17G>A), located in coding exon 1 of the NME8 gene, results from a G to A substitution at nucleotide position 17. The arginine at codon 6 is replaced by glutamine, an amino acid with highly similar properties. This amino acid position is not well conserved in available vertebrate species. In addition, this alteration is predicted to be tolerated by in silico analysis. Since supporting evidence is limited at this time, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
