Sarcoglycans are transmembrane proteins that are components of the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex, which link the actin cytoskeleton to the extracellular matrix. Mutations in this gene are associated with myoclonus-dystonia syndrome. This gene is imprinted, with preferential expression from the paternal allele.
