The DNA-binding motifs suggest this protein is involved in the regulation of transcription and chromatin remodeling. Mutations in this gene have been associated with X-linked cognitive disability. This sequence change replaces glutamic acid, which is acidic and polar, with alanine, which is neutral and non-polar, at codon 792 of the KDM5C protein (p.Glu792Ala). This variant is present in population databases (rs782426227, gnomAD 0.003%). This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals affected with KDM5C-related conditions.
