The protein functions as a transcription co-activator, enhancing the DNA-binding activity of serum response factor, a protein required for the induction of genes by growth and differentiation factors. The protein regulates muscle creatine kinase, indicating a role in the establishment of diverse mesodermal muscle types. (I) 0108 - This gene is associated with both recessive and dominant disease. Craniosynostosis is associated with dominant disease (PMID: 37154149). Agnathia-otocephaly has been associated with both recessive and dominant disease; three affected heterozygous individuals have been reported (PMID: 21294718, 22674740, 23444262). Additionally, one homozygous individual has been reported with unaffected carrier parents (PMID: 22211708). (I) 0112 - The condition associated with this gene has incomplete penetrance.
