The c.8802delC pathogenic mutation, located in coding exon 60 of the ATM gene, results from a deletion of one nucleotide at nucleotide position 8802, causing a translational frameshift with a predicted alternate stop codon (p.M2935Wfs*3). This mutation was detected in a cohort of ataxia-telangiectasia (A-T) patients (Li A et al. Am. J. Med. Genet. 2000 May;92(3):170-7). In addition to the clinical data presented in the literature, this alteration is expected to result in loss of function by premature protein truncation or nonsense-mediated mRNA decay. As such, this alteration is interpreted as a disease-causing mutation.
