Genes affected
LIPE (HGNC:6621): (lipase E, hormone sensitive type) The protein encoded by this gene has a long and a short form, generated by use of alternative translational start codons. The long form is expressed in steroidogenic tissues such as testis, where it converts cholesteryl esters to free cholesterol for steroid hormone production. The short form is expressed in adipose tissue, among others, where it hydrolyzes stored triglycerides to free fatty acids. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
LIPE-AS1 (HGNC:48589): (LIPE antisense RNA 1)

Uncertain significance, criteria provided, single submitter | clinical testing | GeneDx | Feb 06, 2017 | The V1014M variant in the LIPE gene has not been reported previously as a pathogenic variant, nor as a benign variant, to our knowledge. This variant is observed in 4/246 (1.63%) alleles from individuals of Latino background, in the ExAC dataset (Lek et al., 2016). The V1014M variant is a conservative amino acid substitution, which is not likely to impact secondary protein structure as these residues share similar properties. This substitution occurs at a position that is conserved across species. In silico analysis is inconsistent in its predictions as to whether or not the variant is damaging to the protein structure/function. We interpret V1014M as a variant of uncertain significance. - |
