The encoded protein functions in DNA replication, recombination, and the base excision repair process. This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals with LIG1-related conditions. This variant is present in population databases (rs778165966, ExAC 0.002%). This sequence change replaces glutamic acid with lysine at codon 885 of the LIG1 protein (p.Glu885Lys). The glutamic acid residue is highly conserved and there is a small physicochemical difference between glutamic acid and lysine. -
