This gene is the molecular basis of the Langereis (Lan) blood group antigen and mutations in this gene underlie familial pseudohyperkalemia and dyschromatosis universalis hereditaria. This alteration results from a G to A substitution at nucleotide position 2425, causing the glutamic acid (E) at amino acid position 809 to be replaced by a lysine (K).
