This reaction is an important step in vitamin A metabolism in the visual system. Mutations in this gene have been associated with early-onset severe retinal dystrophy and Leber congenital amaurosis 14. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. The c.11C>G (p.P4R) alteration is located in exon 2 (coding exon 1) of the LRAT gene. This alteration results from a C to G substitution at nucleotide position 11, causing the proline (P) at amino acid position 4 to be replaced by an arginine (R). Based on insufficient or conflicting evidence, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. -
