Genes affected
RINT1 (HGNC:21876): (RAD50 interactor 1) This gene encodes a protein first identified for its ability to interact with the RAD50 double strand break repair protein, with the resulting interaction implicated in the regulation of cell cycle progression and telomere length. The encoded protein may also play a role in trafficking of cellular cargo from the endosome to the trans-Golgi network. Mutations in this gene may be associated with breast cancer in human patients. The p.S586T variant (also known as c.1756T>A), located in coding exon 12 of the RINT1 gene, results from a T to A substitution at nucleotide position 1756. The serine at codon 586 is replaced by threonine, an amino acid with similar properties. This amino acid position is conserved. In addition, this alteration is predicted to be tolerated by in silico analysis. Since supporting evidence is limited at this time, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear.
