The protein encoded by this gene is the P protein, which binds to glycine and enables the methylamine group from glycine to be transferred to the T protein. The variant allele was found at a frequency of 2e-05 in 251428 control chromosomes. c.2938A>G has been reported in the literature in one individual affected with intellectual disability and seizures. These data indicate that the variant may be associated with disease. To our knowledge, no experimental evidence demonstrating an impact on protein function has been reported. Two clinical diagnostic laboratories have submitted clinical-significance assessments for this variant to ClinVar after 2014 without evidence for independent evaluation.
