The encoded protein forms a complex of alpha-1, alpha-2/delta, beta, and gamma subunits in a 1:1:1:1 ratio. Mutations in this gene can cause X-linked eye disorders, including congenital stationary night blindness type 2A, cone-rod dystropy, and Aland Island eye disease. This sequence change replaces alanine, which is neutral and non-polar, with serine, which is neutral and polar, at codon 1972 of the CACNA1F protein (p.Ala1972Ser). This variant is present in population databases (rs782049869, gnomAD 0.05%). This variant has not been reported in the literature in individuals affected with CACNA1F-related conditions.
