Genes affected
CCDC39 (HGNC:25244): (coiled-coil domain 39 molecular ruler complex subunit) The protein encoded by this gene is involved in the motility of cilia and flagella. The encoded protein is essential for the assembly of dynein regulatory and inner dynein arm complexes, which regulate ciliary beat. Defects in this gene are a cause of primary ciliary dyskinesia type 14 (CILD14). [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2011]

Primary ciliary dyskinesia Pathogenic:1
Likely pathogenic, criteria provided, single submitter | clinical testing | Labcorp Genetics (formerly Invitae), Labcorp | Oct 02, 2017 | In summary, the currently available evidence indicates that the variant is pathogenic, but additional data are needed to prove that conclusively. Therefore, this variant has been classified as Likely Pathogenic. Algorithms developed to predict the effect of sequence changes on RNA splicing suggest that this variant may create or strengthen a splice site, but this prediction has not been confirmed by published transcriptional studies. This variant has been observed on the opposite chromosome (in trans) from a pathogenic variant in an individual with clinical features of primary ciliary dyskinesia (Invitae). This finding is consistent with autosomal recessive inheritance, and suggests that this variant contributes to disease. This variant is not present in population databases (ExAC no frequency). This sequence change falls in intron 10 of the CCDC39 gene. It does not directly change the encoded amino acid sequence of the CCDC39 protein. - |
