Genes affected
DNAH5 (HGNC:2950): (dynein axonemal heavy chain 5) This gene encodes a dynein protein, which is part of a microtubule-associated motor protein complex consisting of heavy, light, and intermediate chains. This protein is an axonemal heavy chain dynein. It functions as a force-generating protein with ATPase activity, whereby the release of ADP is thought to produce the force-producing power stroke. Mutations in this gene cause primary ciliary dyskinesia type 3, as well as Kartagener syndrome, which are both diseases due to ciliary defects. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009]

Uncertain significance, criteria provided, single submitter | clinical testing | Ambry Genetics | May 27, 2016 | The p.E1813G variant (also known as c.5438A>G), located in coding exon 33 of the DNAH5 gene, results from an A to G substitution at nucleotide position 5438. The glutamic acid at codon 1813 is replaced by glycine, an amino acid with similar properties. This amino acid position is not well conserved in available vertebrate species. In addition, this alteration is predicted to be tolerated by in silico analysis. Since supporting evidence is limited at this time, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. - |
