The lysine at codon 598 is replaced by glutamic acid, an amino acid with similar properties. This variant was identified in a patient with recurrent pancreatitis and chronic airway disease who also carried a p.F508del mutation; however, the phase was not determined (Keiles S, Pancreas 2006 Oct; 33(3):221-7). This amino acid position is highly conserved in available vertebrate species. In addition, this alteration is predicted to be deleterious by in silico analysis. Since supporting evidence is limited at this time, the clinical significance of this variant remains unclear. - |
