The gene product is a subunit of a hexameric protein that consists of two heavy chain subunits and two pairs of non-identical light chain subunits. It functions as a major contractile protein, converting chemical energy into mechanical energy through the hydrolysis of ATP. A chromosomal rearrangement involving this gene is associated with acute myeloid leukemia of the M4Eo subtype. Mutations in this gene are associated with visceral myopathy, megacystis-microcolon-intestinal hypoperistalsis syndrome 2, and familial thoracic aortic aneurysm 4. [provided by RefSeq, May 2022]

This variant results from an in-frame AAGAAG deletion at nucleotide positions 3763 to 3768. This results in the in-frame deletion of two amino acids at codon 1255. This amino acid position is highly conserved in available vertebrate species. In addition, this alteration is predicted to be deleterious by in silico analysis (Choi Y et al. PLoS ONE. 2012; 7(10):e46688). Since supporting evidence is limited at this time, the clinical significance of this alteration remains unclear. - |
